In summer, four shipping companies (TOREMAR, MOBY LINES, BLU NAVY and CORSICA-SARDINIA FERRIES) have comfortable ships, equipped with bar, refreshment area and playground area for children, which make numerous trips every day to Portoferraio, Rio Marina and Cavo, whose timetables can be easily consulted on the websites of each shipping company. It is advisable, especially in the periods of July and August, to purchase both outward and return tickets, in relation to the length of the stay before reaching the island in order to avoid inconvenience when returning.
The Piombino-Portoferraio route takes just over an hour, usually an hour and a quarter.
On the Island of Elba there are no LPG or methane distributors for cars and to make the crossing you have to get on the ferries with the gas system off!
